This year, Scholarship Prep Orange County welcomed the world of Jazz to campus with an after-school program designed to introduce students to music with band, piano, and bucket drumming!

Before heading into the winter break, our Jazz Empowers participants put on their first - performance less than three months after picking up their instruments for the first time! The after-school dance club joined them at the evening performance.

Jazz Empowers is a residency program available to charter schools in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, and it has been a massive hit with students so far. Ruth Sandoval, SPOC’s ELO Manager, shared how fun it has been to watch middle school students learning to play together and form a band with saxophone, trumpet, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and trombone and marvels that students are now reading sheet music.
