We are studying about Rosa Parks and in order to find out about her we have used a variety of informational sources from videos on Brain Pop to reading articles about her life. We are then working in small groups as a team to make a timeline of her life and why she is such an important person in history. Here are some of the groups reading about Rosa Parks. We are then writing report on her life and her accomplishments. Each group is working on different targets aligned to their learning goals. 5e28d9bf2d2bb.mp4

We are writers!
Posted on January 17, 2020
We are learning how to write a paragraph using key details and transition words. Students work with their partners to help ensure that their writing makes sense and then they use "whisper readers" so that they can hear their story out loud before they go to publish their paper.

Beat the clock - Math fun!
Posted on January 10, 2020
I write down our daily math problems and the students have to do the problems in the allotted time. The scholars are working together with their partners to try and solve the facts. When the timer goes off, they get a chance to win some "brain food". They get a piece of popcorn for each correct answer. The first team gets a chance to answer and if they do not have the correct answer, then the team behind them can take the popcorn points. They have to be ready to answer or they will go to the end of the line. Everyone is engaged and eager to pay attention as they try to beat the clock and each other!!!!

Holiday fun!

We wrote our first research paper on reindeers We used GLAD strategies to help organize our information. For example, our reindeer's nose is orange and we wrote in orange that the reindeers noses are designed to help heat the air so their lungs will not freeze. ( learned something new with my young scholars!) Our goals is to write a 5 paragraph research paper by the end of our academic year. Washington scholars are off to a fantastic start!!!
