MLK Jr Project
Posted on January 25, 2019
Hello Northwestern Families!
In January, we focused on celebrating Martin Luther King Jr, and everything that he has done for our country. Students worked over two weeks time to research, plan, edit, and create essays about his speeches, protests, leadership qualities, and goals. Students were able to pick a focus question and text set of their choice to write a compelling argument about Dr. King and his successes. This project was a great way for our students to compare past events, to similar events in our current society. Please speak to your students when you have a chance about the many great things Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has accomplished, and the great legacy he has left for us to follow.

New Semester
Posted on January 14, 2019
Hello Northwestern families and students!

We are now into our second semester here at Scholarship Prep, and students are eager to be back in the classroom! This semester is set to be full of personal growth and achievement for our 7th graders. Our classroom focuses on something called Growth Mindset. This mindset is not only important for students at this pivotal age, but people of all walks of life that are excited to meet and exceed their goals. In our classroom, we are learning that Growth Mindset is about learning from failures and mistakes to become better than we were once before. We are also learning how to move from having a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset. Below are some examples of Fixed vs Growth mindset, and also different ideas associated with each. I encourage each of you to talk to your student about how they were able to show Growth Mindset each day. Thanks!

Coach Wooden Awards
Posted on December 4, 2018

Hello Northwestern families! As you know, Scholarship Prep Charter School believes in teaching students not only about academics and arts, but also building character and life skills. We are able to learn these traits and characteristics from our friend, John Wooden. Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success displays 15 traits that our scholars live by, and each month students are honored at our Monday morning pep rally. So far this year, students have been honored for the character traits of Hard work, Enthusiasm, Friendship, Loyalty, and Cooperation. Congratulations to Kevin, Edgar, Dylan, Scarlett, and Gio! Thank you for being leaders in our classroom and practicing great character education. I can't wait to see who will embody our character traits for December: Self Control and Determination!

Keep the Quote
Posted on October 26, 2018

Hello Northwestern Families!

Your students are learning about the importance of growth mindset, and each week we post a quote and choose someone who embodied this quote all week. This week, Brian was chosen for being kind and lifting up his classmates when they needed positive encouragement.  The students take pride in selecting someone from our class who represents this growth mindset quote. Thank you, Wildcat scholars, for continuing to live and breathe the pyramid of success and growth mindset! :)

Hello Northwestern students and families! I am so happy to announce that we have teamed up with the kindergarten scholars of Harvard University to become reading buddies! Ms. Valdivia and I are so excited to create this friendship and bond between the older and younger scholars. This is a wonderful opportunity for the 7th graders to become mentors and leaders for our kinder friends. Here are some pictures of our newly paired Wildcats and Harvard students!
