Running the Kitchen: How Lunch Bunch Is Turning SP Orange County Scholars Into Chefs

Fridays at Scholarship Prep Orange County mean one thing: Lunch Bunch is in session, and our 2nd graders are running the kitchen.

Recently, our Scholar chefs took on gyozas. Students prepped their own vegetable and tofu filling, mixed a soy dipping sauce from scratch, and folded and sealed each dumpling by hand. Their Lunch Bunch instructor handled the hot pan, and by the time our Scholars came back from lunch, a fresh batch of golden gyozas was waiting for them.

That moment, eating something you built from raw ingredients with your own hands, is exactly what Lunch Bunch is designed to create. Through our partnership with Lunch Bunch, Scholars build real culinary skills, develop teamwork and leadership, and learn what it takes to prepare nutritious meals from scratch. They are not just learning to cook. They are developing the creative thinking and entrepreneurial mindset that will serve them well beyond the kitchen.

Every Friday, Scholarship Prep Orange County Scholars leave Lunch Bunch a little more confident in the kitchen. And a lot more excited about what they are capable of.
